Col 2:8 See to it that no one makes a prey of you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary matters of the world, and not according to Messiah. Check this out. It might be a good idea to take another look at this, because there might be a hidden agenda when people take these scriptures out of context. Lets get this straight, any philosophical view [and there are many] is to get us thinking. So it is the case, that if someone deliberately uses this scripture without giving the full meaning there is something clandestine occurring as in not wanting the hearer to think for themselves. Pull the words out and see that this is speaking of (a) making one prey, (b) through philosophy and deceit, and (c) according to elementary matters. For example, an elementary matter might be whose doctorine is better, whose church is better, whose pastor is better and never leaving that thinking. Accordingly, whose choir sings the best. Elementary, and another one going on now with Sabbath what day its on, when the bible specifically tells us the 7th day. One thing to note about is that the covenant is absolute and can be ascribed to a philosophical view called Ethical Absolutism which says that there are universal standards by which to measure morality. In essence, concepts of good and evil, right and wrong and justice have a separate objective in existence. To explain, and make this short Ethical Absolutism says that right and wrong concepts stand all the time on their own. In other words, if stealing is wrong today then it is wrong tomorrow, has been wrong in the past and shall remain wrong all the time; no matter the circumstance that might arise whether out of greed, just for fun or lack of something to do, or, to feed a hungry child stealing is wrong. Is stealing wrong? Then philosophy is not bad in its rights, however when added with deception makes all things wrong. Hence, the meaning is made wrought that someone does not want us to think for ourselves.
