Collection of Gods I love the late-night television programs that claim Jesus was an alien. Or how about the scene where Tony Soprano whacks some degenerate gambler for not paying his debt right before stepping into the Catholic church to attend a christening for a newborn baby in the family? And you can’t forget about al those people who killed a bunch of total strangers just because he claims “God told me to do it.” Say what you want about religion, but it’s intertwined in every single thing we do, every single minute of every single day. Make no mistake about it, it’s a crutch for some people who use it to shield their own inexcusable actions, and yet it’s a catchphrase for many others who would rather sit home on a Sunday and watch the football game instead of going to church. For most, it doesn’t truly dawn on you until something calls your own mortality into question, like when a loved one passes away, or a terrible accident almost takes their life. For me, I think the vast majority of people can tell right from wrong without having to be constantly reminded. However, it’s the ratio of right and wrong by which you live your life that ultimately challenges you along the way. I know nothing of my yesterday I can see little of our tomorrow These days are blind to hypocrisy I dream only of meaningful change I pray for the end of all this sorrow No more fearing the great machine So many words have been overused So many meaningless promises made Hollow are the souls of the forgotten False declarations have been abused As corruption is allowed to persuade The future needs more than discontent The fundamental challenges of our faith Our collection of Gods may never agree Our inherent purpose is only to protect The magical moments still fascinate us Beyond all your interpretation of beliefs And appeals to the same people we reject No one is certain where this journey leads Or where they are going when they leave But one theory seems to rise over the rest Someone, somewhere is watching over us Guiding our soul between right and wrong Pushing us where science can only guess https://facebook/paulcdeanpoetry
