Collector Farid Qureshi hears Rs772m Q-Mobile smuggling case December 13, 2014 KARACHI: The 6th hearing into the tax evasion case linked with Q-Mobile and their authorized dealers, Digicom and New Allied Electronics would be conducted today. The Collector of Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi will conduct the hearing into the Q-Mobile tax evasion case. It is pertinent to mention here that the MCC Multan is the respondent into the case, which made a contravention report against the Q-Mobile in which it stated that the said cellular company was allegedly involved in evading duty/taxes amounting to Rs 772 million in terms of shortfall in Custom Duty and Additional Sales Tax. The petitioners Q-Mobile and its authorized dealers New Allied Electronics and Digicom were of the view that the MCC-Multan was violated its jurisdiction, as the consignments were cleared from Air Fright Unit-AFU-JIAP. The petitioners were also adopted the view points in their previous hearings that collecting the Sales Tax was not the ambit of Pakistan Customs, while Customs authorities have made it clear that the Section 6 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 allows them to collect Sales Tax as Custom Duty. The sources informed Customs Today that the hearing on Thursday December 11into the tax evasion would likely to be the last one and the Collector of Adjudication-I Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi will decide the fate of the case.
