College GameDay site predictions for 2014 Only 94 days remain until the first Saturday of college football. In other words, they’ll be ‘Comin’ to Your City’ before you know it. Today, ESPN College GameDay producer Lee Fitting tweeted, “This year, CollegeGameDay will broadcast from a location that we’ve never been to before. Always fun.” The news is not surprisingly considering the overwhelmingly successful broadcast last year from Fargo, North Dakota. It’s difficult to pinpoint the “off-the-radar” destination for this season, but here’s my best guess at the where College GameDay is likely to setup shop in 2014. August 30: Clemson at Georgia FSU vs. Oklahoma State in Arlington is possible because the Seminoles are the reigning national champions and ESPN could start and finish the season in Arlington, site of the first college football playoff championship game. September 6: Michigan State at Oregon The schematic differences between the Spartans and Ducks creates such an intriguing conversation. (Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi) September 13: Tennessee at Oklahoma Tennessee could help make this decision easier for ESPN by convincingly defeating Utah State in their season-opener. That’s easier said than done. September 20: Clemson at Florida State In case you’re not buying Clemson, think again. Dabo released the Tigers depth chart this week and you might want to read these stats about the Tigers defensive line. I expect both teams to enter the game undefeated. Miami (FL) at Nebraska could be in play for this weekend. September 27: WILDCARD The schedule includes Missouri at South Carolina, Stanford at Washington, Oregon State at USC, and Cincinnati at Ohio State. My guess is that GameDay ends up somewhere off the radar for this particular weekend. The timing seems right. October 4: Alabama at Ole Miss GameDay has never been to Oxford, Mississippi. Only once have the Rebels earned the right to host the show. It was in 2003 when Ole Miss hosted LSU for the right to go to the SEC championship game. ESPN chose to Ohio State-Michigan game instead. Ole Miss could be undefeated heading into this game against Alabama. If so, Chris, Lee, Kirk, and Des will fall in love with The Grove. LSU at Auburn will be on the radar, as well. October 11: Oregon at UCLA UCLA’s first five games are particularly interesting. The Bruins play at Virginia, Memphis, at Texas, at Arizona State, and Utah. If Brett Hundley plays as well as Jim Mora and Noel Mazzone expect, UCLA could be 5-0 as they prepare for the Oregon Ducks. On the other hand, if Mississippi State can upset LSU in Baton Rouge for the first time in forever, don’t rule out Starkville for the Mississippi State-Auburn game. Penn State at Michigan is also on the docket. October 18: Notre Dame at Florida State The other matchups this weekend include Stanford at Arizona State and Texas A&M at Alabama. I expect the GameDay crew to arrive in Tallahassee on Thursday for this one. October 25: Ohio State at Penn State 107,000 strong. James Franklin and Christian Hackenberg are coming at you, Urban. Nittany Lions defensive line coach Sean Spencer (a.k.a. Chaos) micd up in the locker room to start the broadcast later that night? Yes, please. If either team slips up beforehand, South Carolina at Auburn or Michigan at Michigan State could come into play. Sean Spencer - a.k.a. Chaos November 1: Stanford at Oregon Surely the Ducks have circled this game after the physical whooping they received last season. The entire nation will be waiting to see how the Ducks respond after two straight losses to Stanford. If Ole Miss doesn’t host GameDay earlier in the year, and if Auburn is ranked in the top 3, Oxford could be in play for the Ole Miss-Auburn game. November 8: Ohio State at Michigan State The Big Ten championship game last season was a classic. Both teams will have to be ranked highly because there are several other strong possibilities for this weekend: Alabama at LSU, Baylor at Oklahoma, Notre Dame at Arizona State, Texas A&M at Auburn. November 15: Oklahoma at Texas Tech Odd things happen in Lubbock. The Sooners could be ranked in the Top 5 at the time. Keep an eye on Auburn at Georgia, Mississippi State at Alabama, and Nebraska at Wisconsin. November 22: USC at UCLA This game could carry significant implications on the post-season. Auburn at Alabama College GameDay will be in Tuscaloosa where the SEC Western Division could be decided on the field. After last season’s unforgettable finish, Tuscaloosa seems like the obvious choice here. Post-season implications are almost a certainty. Right now, the least expensive seat on StubHub is going for $314.
