College for Seniors - Fall 2013 Course Preview After retiring to an Asheville mountainside, Linda Alford has had to relearn much of what she thought she knew about gardening. Landscaping in our mountains presents unique challenges, such as dealing with slope erosion, managing storm water runoff, and being fire-wise. “Analyzing and Landscaping Your Western North Carolina Homesite” integrates science, common sense, and practical information to help homeowners – gardeners and non-gardeners alike – understand those challenges and analyze their own properties. We will discuss how to develop strategies for smart landscaping to optimize time and money, how to protect your home, and how to help preserve our mountain environment. This course is also ideal for those who anticipate purchasing a home, as learning about these challenges may help in evaluating properties under consideration. Linda has been an Extension Master Gardener since 2007 and a frequent presenter in their programs. Additional presenters (all Master Gardeners) will include Deborah Green, Beth Leonard, Alan Wagner, Charles Gershon, and Glenn Palmer.
