College of education sacks lecturer over fraud- The authorities of Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, have dismissed a lecturer over alleged academic fraud just as four students of the institution are standing trial for alleged impersonation. The Provost, Dr. James Ejue, who disclosed this in Calabar, while interacting with journalists on plans for the institution, said the action was in line with its zero tolerance policy on malpractices. He said: “One lecturer has already lost his job because he was caught extorting money from students and four others are undergoing investigation because those ones already have confirmed appointments. We are following proceedings and if found guilty, they will be shown the way out.” Ejue also promised to give full sponsorship to the first 10 students of the college who secured admission into universities abroad, adding that the essence was to ensure effective staff training and development. The provost also said plans were afoot to establish a Department of Chinese Language in 2015 because Nigeria and the rest of Africa were turning to China. “Chinese firms are everywhere and we are doing business with them and if we must have the best of negotiation and benefit, it will be an added advantage if we understand their language. “We will recruit some persons and send them to China to study Chinese language and when they return, we will introduce the programme in the Pre-NCE level,” he said. Also, he hinted that the management was working towards the introduction of degree programmes in 2015, adding that the college was going into a public/private partnership (PPP) to provide adequate accommodation for students. - The Sun.
