Collins Park News Miami Beach Arts Trust is honoring my partner, Patrick, and me with an Arts Advocate award at the 8th anniversary fundraiser of MiamiArtZine on Monday, 11-11 at 6:30 PM. We hope you will come celebrate this honor with us. For a $25 minimum donation with lots of food and drink, it is a great value and you get to support an outstanding on-line arts publication. Cocktails are at 7PM Members, please join us at 7pm for a special cocktail hour in appreciation of your continued support of the museum. Bass Museum of Arts Director of Education Dr. Adrienne von Lates discusses the impact of gender studies on the study of art. By analyzing the work of the master Baroque Caravaggio and modern and contemporary artists, she will discuss how normative standards of masculinity and femininity have evolved over time and cultures. Sunday, November 10 is going to be a day well spent at SoBe Arts! Join us in celebrating the creativity of original folk music artists of Florida. Starting at 2:00 PM. with the young and very talented AVOCADO ESTATE, the exciting DAPHNA ROSE & ROSEBUD, the smooth vocals of DOUG SPEARS, the urban sounds of JESSE JACKSON, and ending with a folk music legend, BOB LIND who helped make folk music popular again in the 1960s with his mega-hit Elusive Butterfly. Bob Lind’s songs have been recorded by everyone from Petula Clark & Cher to Dolly Parton & Glen Campbell. And, in keeping with SoBe Arts mission to build audiences for the arts, this amazing day is free and open to everyone in the community (with free parking). The Holocaust Memorial commemorates Kristallnacht 1933-1945 Meridian Avenue. FREE Event On Sunday, November 10 at 6PM, The Collins Park community is invited to join us at the Holocaust Memorial to commemorate the 75th year after Kristallnacht, the night of the Broken Glass in Germany and Austria. Primarily thought of as the foreshadowing of the Holocaust, the November 10 evening will feature local concert violinist Daniel Andai and Wendy Reis Rothfield, a child survivor of the Kristallnacht in Austria, who will share her memories of having to leave her childhood home in great haste. Prior to screening at national film festivals, the trailor of a brand new Holocaust documentary will be part of the evenings program. Looking forward to seeing you. Free parking for the first 75 cars is available at the “p” LOT in front of the Convention Center. Veteran Day is Monday, November 11th. Come honor and celebrate our Veterans starting at 9AM Plan Ahead Clean out your homes and get rid of all those old documents you were afraid to throw away with free shredding. Get rid of the old paint too! FREE Hazardous Waste Drop-off and Paper Shredding Date: Sunday, November 17, 2013 Location: Parking Lot at 40 Street and Chase Avenue (adjacent to the canal) Time: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Please note that paper shredding will only be available from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are considered to be household hazardous waste. These products contain hazardous ingredients that require special care when disposed of in order to protect human health and the quality of environment. Drop off your householdchemicals and hazardous waste, including paints, cleaners, motor oil, propane, pool chemicals, batteries, electronics, fertilizers, and pesticides, for proper disposal. A paper shredding vehicle provided by ShredTrust will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to accept, destroy, and recycle paper documents. Please note that paper documents will only be accepted while the vehicle is on-site.
