Cologne: A stroll through Cologne is a stroll through time. With an ancient Roman wall, medieval and Gothic churches, avant-garde structures and a brand new postmodern quarter right on the river, there is so much to see and do. Colognes most famous attraction is its cathedral, whose filigree twin spires dominate the skyline. Kolmer Dom, is the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and took over 600 years to complete! The history of Cologne dates back to around AD 50, when Romans established a major settlement here, on the banks of the Rhine. There is a fascinating museum the Roman Germanic Museum that houses the Dionysios Mosaic . It was discovered in 1941 by workers building an air raid shelter, and the museum was built around the mosaic to preserve its integrity! We are off to the Haxenhaus for some pork knuckles and a sip of cold Kolsh beer. Prost!
