Colombia Wins Gold Medal With Youth Olympic Cycling Team Nanjing, Aug 22 .- Colombia won the gold medal today at the Second Youth Olympics in the combined test category for team cycling, relegating Denmark and Holland to the second and third positions. Team cyclists Brandon Smith Rivera and John Anderson Rodríguez pedaled to achieve the 273 points that placed them in the top position. This test, with difficult conditions aggravated by heat, took place at the Laoshan Forest Natural Park, located in a northern town of Nanjing, nearly 32 miles outside the Olympic Village. The test consists of a 23 kilometer cross-country route, time trial, BMX and Classic road race. The Laoshan park has an area of 80 million square feet, 80 percent of which is forested, causing it to be known as the lungs of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province. Anderson Rodríguez finished in eleventh position in the race, but the seven points he achieved were enough to put his team in first place with 273 points overall. Other Latin American participants were from Mexico and Argentina, who placed fifth and seventh. With this gold, Colombia has achieved three medals at these Youth Olympics. Two are bronze: Andres Caicedo, 60 kg in weight, and Delibie Yopasa, 63 kg in taekwondo. At the first Youth Olympic Games, held four years ago in Singapore, Colombia also won cycling gold, although on that occasion it was with mixed teams, composed of two athletes from each gender. The Second Youth Olympics in Nanjing end on August 28 and opened on August 16 with a gorgeous, colorful ceremony at Nanjing Stadium. (Prensa Latina)
