Colombia’s Minister of Mines and Energy has told the mining company Prodeco, owned by Swiss multinational Glencore Xstrata, that it had to integrate 6 separate operations in order to renew their license. All of the licenses were assigned for small scale mining, which means Prodeco pays 5% taxes for each permit instead of the 10% they would pay if they had a single license for large scale mining. colombiareports.co/coal-giant-prodeco-must-merge-colombia-operations-pay-taxes-renew-license/ For more information on this issue take a look at our report on mining (in Spanish and English): abcolombia.org.uk/subpage.asp?subid=482&mainid=23
