Colorado to Reno Bike Trip Day 6/9(¿) 48 miles (486 tot.) Up at dawn, on my way to fifty miles before noon and the planned 146 miles for the day. Just after the second of the only two major climbs, i see water streaming down the side of my bag. The 10L drom popped at the seam. But i could hardly be frustrated. i was about to pass into a hundred solid miles of desert without services of any kind. Instead i rode two miles to Golden Spike National Historic Site, twenty miles from anywhere, yet the peak of irony, as Burning Man, where im headed, starts the event prep by driving the golden spike that orients the clock layout. For the next five hours i fruitlessly beg rides, west to Nevada, or south to Salt Lake City. Somewhere that puts me in line to make Reno by Wednesday night. Turned down two different ones that would get me to civilization but set me back for time. Still annoyed with the couple driving the Westy that claimed no room even though i could clearly see it, fifteen minutes before the site closed for the day and sentenced me to a night in the desert, a mormon family reluctantly offers a ride to Tremonton, the edge of anything, saying they had some family stuff to do there for a few hours or else they would take me along to SLC after. i tell them id appreciate it, but i wouldnt take the ride unless i could go to SLC, that ill wait by the side of the road while they have their family dinner if need be. Well, by the time we got there, they decided to take me to grans place for dinner. By the time we left dinner, they invited me to stay for the night in SLC. By the time we got to their place they were telling me about their hot tub. i just got out of it, took a shower, and set down to type this. Mysterious ways.
