Columbia teen Naomi Kurlowich will feel like a princess on New Year’s Day as an invited representative at the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. Kurlowich has been chosen by the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) to represent it as a tissue transplant recipient for its Donate Life Float at the parade....Diagnosed at birth with Down syndrome, Kurlowich has never let it slow her down, from playing on a local softball team for children with developmental challenges, to being a physically active student at school....After a nasty fall right before her 15th birthday that left her wheelchair- bound to avoid further dislocations, her parents were advised by a pediatric surgeon that a more aggressive approach was needed. The surgeon explained that Naomis ligaments were too weak to reconstruct and suggested using donated tissue to fix the problem.
