Combat Logistics Battalion 2 change of command ceremony Story by 1st Lt. James Stenger and Lance Cpl. Shawn Valosin CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Combat Logistics Battalion 2 conducted a change of command ceremony at the building 2 amphitheater here Wednesday, passing the total accountability, authority and responsibility of the battalion between two high ranking officers. Lt. Col. William Stophel assumed command of CLB-2 from Lt. Col. Denise Mull in a traditional ceremony overlooking the New River. Brig. Gen. Edward D. Banta, the commanding general of 2nd Marine Logistics Group, noted that Mull left a “lasting and indelible impression on [her] Marines and sailors” throughout her time in command. Mull, a native of Nogales, Ariz., thanked her family and those senior enlisted Marines and officers who mentored her throughout her career. She listed the battalion’s 2012 deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as a highlight of her tenure. The Marines of CLB-2 were like “Pep Boys, construction workers, FedEx and UPS … but with guns and an attitude” during their deployment, said Mull. She will move on to an assignment at Marine Corps Forces Central Command in Tampa, Fla. Stophel, a native of Sullivan County, Tenn., made his comments to the attendees brief, simply stating to the Marines, “I look forward to working beside you, with you and for you.” CLB-2 is one of three direct support combat logistics units in II Marine Expeditionary Force. A CLB is typically in charge of providing a range of logistical support to an infantry regiment, including general engineering operations, maintenance of gear and equipment and transportation support. The unit was activated April 21, 2006, and has recently also participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom for two combat deployments in 2007 and 2008. CLB-2 deployed for the first time to Afghanistan in 2010. Read more: dvidshub.net/news/109302/combat-logistics-battalion-2-change-command-ceremony#.UctOjZyOndE#ixzz2XM9Fd5ct
