Combs should be embarrassed by his petty behavior. goo.gl/0H8ADG Combs, who has contributed $1,350 to Kent Clark over the years, is just being a sore loser. This is nothing more than Combs throwing a hissy fit. Combs falsely claims that Chaney has “no experience or no unique training.” Chaney’s experience includes: District Director (Office of Congressman Andy Barr; January 2013 – Present); Chief Deputy Clerk (Madison County Clerk’s Office; January 2010 – January 2013); Director of Corporate and Legislative Programs (Office of the Secretary of State; January 2007 – December 2010); Acting Commissioner; Deputy Commissioner; Chief of Staff (Governor’s Office for Local Development; 2005 – 2007); Kentucky League of Cities (Public Relations Coordinator; and Director of Membership Programs (Kentucky League of Cities; 2000 – 2004). Combs falsely claims that Chaney “will be making more after four years than those who are actually elected.” He makes this absurd claim by adding the cost of her benefits to her salary and falsely portraying it all as salary when comparing it to the salary of the elected officers. The reality regarding the pay is that Chaney will be making substantially less that the elected officers: “Judge/executive, sheriff, clerk and jailer are all paid a yearly salary of $97,774.51 for a second year of service and $105,596.47 for fourth year of service and beyond.” (“What they make: Some public service pays,” The Richmond Register, November 1, 2014. richmondregister/news/what-they-make-some-public-service-pays/article_e610ea20-6184-11e4-a5ab-8f6bc0181b64.html) I would think that the Deputy Judge/Executive would make somewhere in the range of one of county department heads that Kent Clark said should be making about $75k back in 2009 when Mr. Combs voted to approve Clark’s pay raises back in 2009. (Ronica Shannon, “Some county employees received much more than 3-percent raise,” The Richmond Register, September 2, 2009. richmondregister/news/local_news/some-county-employees-received-much-more-than--percent-raise/article_ccbd6477-7807-5005-95ff-410b661a85f9.html) If the head of a county department deserved $75,000 in 2010 (Mr. Combs voted for the increase in September 2009, so he thought it appropriate for 2010) and only received a 1% increase each year to account for inflation (this substantially less than the actual inflation rate), they would deserve $78,825.75 today. Chaney would be starting at less than a very conservative calculation of the equivalent for department heads that Combs supported in September 2009.
