Come and Meet the Jesuit Priest Responsible for Teaching Basic Literacy to Over a Million People in Nicaragua Join us and learn more as the Jesuit Community at University of Detroit Mercy hosts an informational presentation featuring Fernando Cardenal, S.J., a legendary 80 year old Jesuit and one of the great moral voices of Nicaragua for over 40 years. He is a long-time advocate for social justice and education for the poor, lending his remarkable energies to Fe y Alegría, the system of Jesuit schools across Central and Latin America. The Fe y Alegria schools are astonishing and transformative, educating hundreds of children in very tough urban neighborhoods. Accompanied by Marco Gomez, S.J., who will serve as translator, Fr. Cardenal will speak about his life-long commitment to the people of Nicaragua and Fe y Alegría at a presentation on Wednesday, October 30 7:00 p.m. in the Chemistry Lecture Hall, Room 114 on the McNichols campus of University of Detroit Mercy, 4001 West McNichols, Detroit. A wine and cheese reception will follow the presentation. There is no charge for attending and reservations are not necessary.
