Come on down to our San Rafael store and meet our new nursery manager, Michael Eaton! (Our long-time resident expert, Tommy Collom, is in the process of passing the torch as he prepares for a well-deserved retirement.) Michael is originally from Liberal, Kansas. He first became interested in plants and gardening at the age of five when, on his grandmothers kitchen window sill, he remembers being fascinated by a succulent growing out of a rock. Michael credits his grandmother for giving me the gardening bug when she taught him how to do rose cuttings. Michaels passion for plants and gardening led him to take horticulture courses during his first stint in college, which was followed by his becoming a florist in his early twenties. When Michael moved to Denver in the early 1990s, he went to work for Veldkamps, a wholesale grower. In the summer of 2000, Michael came to California on vacation, and decided to stay. (Who could blame him?) Since then, he has continued working in the horticulture industry, including retail, wholesale, and landscaping. In 2009, Michael obtained his Bachelors degree in Strategic Management from Dominican University of California. With Michaels expertise in many facets of the horticulture business - his true love being that of retail garden centers - it has become United Markets good fortune to bring him on board here in 2014. Michael has a lot of great ideas and plans for Uniteds nursery, and were sure youll be excited as we move into the future. To start with, hes introduced E.B. Stone Organics fertilizers, and has a great new line of pottery coming in the next several weeks. Michaels great résumé is only outdone by his knowledge and passion. We think youre going to be impressed and excited with our new resident expert!
