Comets U14s came out on top in the local derby vs Wymondley Park - TopicsExpress

Comets U14s came out on top in the local derby vs Wymondley Park away today. Total shock in the Wymondley team as Comets came out of the blocks set up to attack, and attack they did with some outstanding football that Wymondley just could not cope with. Who would have thought that we were a division 3 team last year as we look like we have never been out of division 2 the way we have coped so far this year. The team should take great credit in the way they have evolved in the last 2 years, the metal toughness that is shown by all is phenomenal plus the team spirit is just inspirational...... so back to the game, Comets started and just played some great football with Connor, William, Ethan, Charlie H pulling the strings through the middle and the defence and attack running and looking for the ball all the time. It took just 30 seconds into the game when Ethan scored to give us a 1-0 lead from some good football (have no idea who put the ball through as too excited at the time) and then 6 minutes later Charlie M scored from a great cross from William which Alex knocked it into Charlie to ram home, 2-0......... The attacking play just continued with Alex always looking to score and Connor chasing every last ball, but there was the odd occasion Wymondley came into our half but the Defense of Raul, James, Dan, Jake were just not having any of it and clearing everything thrown at them, and if they did get through then Matt was on hand to collect. Wymondley pulled a goal back from some slack marking from a corner to make it 2-1 but 2 minutes later Comets were awarded a penalty and Charlie M coolly slotted home to make it 3-1 and a well deserved half time lead. 2nd half was a different story as Wymondley played long to the front pair and within a minute of the re-start Wymondley scored again to make it 3-2 but Comets just held firm time and time again and Wymondley could not find anything different to get the equalizer and the game ended 3-2 to Comets. There was some really resolute defending in the 2nd half from the whole team which was fantastic but the defense and the Keeper deserve the MOM award but as a team you were great and now every team in Division 2 will look and worry about us....... well done: Matt, Jake, Daniel, James, Raul, William, Evan, Charlie M, Ethan, Charlie H, Connor, Alex, Joseph
