Comic Relief If you thought that Bull fighting is a phenomenon derived and synonymous with the Isukha of Kakamega County only, then you are wrong. In my heydays as a young boy in mid 80’s we had the responsibility to graze cattle along river banks. We would take cattle from the kraal (ikhonge) at dawn and graze till dusk along river Walatsi. But before we would head back home at dusk, we organized for a bull fighting contest pitting bulls from my locality against bulls from across river Walatsi (Tesoland). It was fun. We would pluck as many ticks (tsingwa) as possible from cattle, squeeze green grass, then prick the tick to produce blood. The blood would then be put on the squeezed grass and placed at a strategic location. Then we would force the bulls to move closer and smell squeezed and blooded grass. This would irritate the bull prompting it to charge at the opponent bull with rage and a fight would ensue a midst wild cheers from ourselves. If your bull won the contest, you left the scene a very happy lot while the opponents were dejected swearing to front a very formidable bull next time. Do you remember those days…?
