Coming Friday September 19, 2014 Global Mala Yoga for Peace is an annual worldwide event initiated by Shiva Rea in 2007– a collective sacred activism practice and experiment into the power of meditation in action. A mala is made up of 108 beads and is a symbol for the prayer for peace, hope and charity. The purpose of the Global Mala is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a “mala around the earth” through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 on Sept. 19th thru 21st (Fall Equinox) as the yoga worlds offering to raise consciousness and further the UN International Peace Day. Join Global Mala founder Shiva Rea (and special guests) on Friday evening, Sept. 19th for a special event in Washington DC as part of the largest unified worldwide yoga event dedicated to positive change! We will come together in yoga, live music and friendship as part of a circle around the Earth and dedicate our energy to peace. Our meditative practice will include: Sun Salutations - 108 rounds of the universal prostrations as a body prayer for embodying peace (appropriate for all levels) Kriya and Mantra Juicy Shavasana for Peace Movers and shakers meditation with the rocking live percussion sounds of DC Batala (part of an international group that plays Afro-Brazilian / Samba-Reggae rhythms) Meditation in action - the power within each one of us to make a difference Our goal: to awaken awareness of yoga energy activism and to raise funds for local and global organizations devoted to some of the most essential issues of our times. All proceeds of this DC celebration will support Solar-Aid (eradicating toxic kerosene lamps for renewable solar Lamps for students off-the grid in East Africa) and N Street Village (a community of empowerment and recovery for homeless and low-income women in Washington, D.C.).
