Coming to the end of a few weeks on the road, our first extended - TopicsExpress

Coming to the end of a few weeks on the road, our first extended trip since T broke her foot kicking a wombat. This has been a terrific trip on two accounts: firstly, the new experience of Fraser Island and secondly, and more importantly, the catch up with family. The family element has been a reminder of just how important these connections are - and of course we have maintained communication with the ones back home. We first touched base with Janet, Ts sister in Dorrigo. This was our first introduction to Vinomofo - it was later strongly recommended from another branch of the family so it must be good. We will be following this one up. That was followed a few days later by a dinner at Margaret (Ds big sister) and Chris Cottrells home in Brisbane. They had gathered a crowd of relatives - Peter & Margot Cran, Ian (cousin) & Gill Wesche, Ben (Ds nephew) and (briefly) Alice Cottrell - who was not at all well. And a lovely surprise - Peter Dair (cousin) whom D had not seen since the early 60s. We then caught up with Ts brother Michael and his wife Val in Runaway Bay for a quiet lunch. A bit unusual - we were able to discuss family, terrorism and politics ( all related topics) without any angst. Most unusual. That event was followed by A Day on the Farm, a Wehl family event held on Peter Wehls birthday. Peter died earlier this year from melanoma, and the event was a fundraiser for Melanoma Patients Association. It is impossible to detail the Wehl family members whom we met over two days - every time you met someone, they were a cousin, or related through marriage, or......! But the event was terrific, and as Glad said, no one was drunk or swore ( Im sure part of that changed later in the evening). So thanks to the Wehls for a great event to celebrate and recognize Peter. Our final visit is to Ts brother Tony in Mulumbimby tomorrow, and then well point south and just drive, drive, drive.
