Coming up Tonight at Access is another installment of Hard Dance Classics that im DJjing at. To mark the occasion every day leading up ill tell you a little story about some of the tunes that are classics to me. #5 Lock n Load - Blow Ya Mind. I couldnt rep Hard Dance Classics without mentioning my love for the Dutch club sound of the late 90s. This is where the bounce and the catchy riffs came into their own. Acts like the Klubbheads & Mo-Bizz Records paved the way and had commercial success... then came this! Lock N Load got all the credit yet it was Bart Arens & Tom van der Geer aka Club Caviar that delivered the iconic mix that would become one of the easily recognised and played tunes of 1999, 2000 & 2001. This personifies the hoovers & horns sound of harder music. Blow Ya Mind was one of the first club tunes to use triplicates in the second breakdown uniquely giving it the edge. I got it on its Dutch label Blue/White and it was one of the times you knew from first play you had a monster tune on your hand. It took about 6 months to gain popularity and go big (Steve Hill may have a story or two to tell as it was signed to Y2K before Pepper Records in the UK). I loved that each label that released it added its own remix to the package thus making me buy nearly every 12inch of it. See you tonight!
