Edwards first joined the Temptations in 1968, replacing David Ruffin, and sang with the group until 1976, returning from 1980 to 1984 and 1987 to 1989. In the mid-1980s, he attempted a solo career, scoring a hit in 1984 with Dont Look Any Further (featuring Siedah Garrett). Today, he is the lead singer of The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, a Temptations splinter group. Dont Look Any Further is a 1984 single by former Temptations lead singer Dennis Edwards, featuring Siedah Garrett. The single was written by Franne Golde, Dennis Lambert, and Duane Hitchings. It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Black Singles chart and peaked at No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. Guitar, bass and drum programming is by Paul Jackson, Jr. Dont Look Any Further played a prominent role in the plot of The X-Files episode Orison, as a high school memory trigger/divine warning for Dana Scully. The instrumental also been used as an underscore in several first season episodes of Everybody Hates Chris It also appears in episode 4 of HBOs How to Make It in America. The music video for the song has been described as what ... might be the worst video ever. Hit Em Up is a diss song by rap artist Tupac Shakur (2Pac), featuring his group the Outlawz. It is the B-side to the single How Do U Want It, released on June 4, 1996, from the album All Eyez on Me. The song’s lyrics contain vicious insults to several East Coast rappers, chief among them, Shakurs former friend and rival, The Notorious B.I.G., also known as Biggie Smalls. The song was recorded in Los Angeles, California at Can Am Studios in May 1996. Reporter Chuck Philips, who interviewed Shakur at Can Am, described the song as a caustic anti-East Coast jihad in which the rapper threatens to eliminate Biggie, Sean Combs (Puffy), and a slew of Bad Boy artists and other New York acts. The song was produced by long-time collaborator Johnny J and samples the bassline from Dont Look Any Further by Dennis Edwards. The video, itself described as infamous, includes impersonations of Biggie, Puffy and Lil Kim. Hit Em Up had a large role in exacerbating the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry. Following its release, the East Coast rappers insulted in the song responded through tracks of their own. The controversy surrounding the song is due in part to Shakur’s murder only three months after its release. #BridgingtheGap
