Coming up at the Box: MAAC show artists please pick up your artwork Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. All Artwork must be picketed up by Saturday, August 9 by 4 p.m. Please be sure to stop at the reception desk at the main entrance to sign out your pieces. It was a great show. Thanks for all of you efforts. Upcoming member show features self-portraits Art drop off August 4 - August 11 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., show runs August 16 -September 27. Be creative, be yourself. If doing a true self-rendering; no need to frame, but please keep unframed works to 18 x 24 or less. Saturday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m. Jazz vocalist / songwriter Jenna Mammina returns to her hometown of St. Joseph to perform in, An Intimate Evening with Jenna Mammina & David Lahm, featuring original, standards and songs Tickets, available online with PayPal at boxfactoryforthearts.org/calendar/#mammina or at the door are $10 general admission; $8 students and seniors; children 12 and under free. Jenna has performed with a vast array of legendary talent, such as Bobby McFerrin, June Millington, Rickie Lee Jones, Al Jarreau, Phish, David Sanborn, Ray Obiedo, Wil Ackerman, Liz Story, Tuck Andress, and Rosemary Clooney. David began playing classical piano at seven, and by fourteen had decided that jazz and pop music was his true calling. Hes toured and recorded with the Buddy Rich Band and was the house pianist and accompanist at the legendary Village Gate, backing a whos who of the greatest vocalists in New York City. Japanese Stab Binding class with Bill Barrick, August 16 from 10 a.m. – noon, cost $40. This bookbinding technique is simple and easy to learn. Create a hard bound book of any collection of single sheets such as drawings, scrapbook pages or writing samples. Cover will be created from old purses, wallpaper samples and burlap. Bring your own loose pages of writing, art, photos, etc. to be bound or you can choose to bind blank sheets of art paper (supplied) into a personalized journal or sketchbook. Maximum number of students in the class is 8. Sign up early to reserve a space. Saturday, August 16 at 7:30 p.m. Midwest troubadour Mark Dvorak will present a very special concert at the Box Factory for the Arts. General admission tickets are $10 with senior and student tickets available for $8. Over the last two decades, Dvorak has forged a reputation as an uncompromising road warrior, traveling to thirty-six states and to Europe with only his songs, stories, guitar and five string banjo. His new CD on the Waterbug label, Time Ain’t Got Nothin’ On Me, has been receiving rave reviews and airplay nationwide. Dvorak will be performing songs from his new disc, as well as more well-known material, and favorites from his previous recordings. Time Ain’t Got Nothin’ On Me is his 17th CD release. Firefly photo workshops with David Knight will begin the week of September 22 Workshops are 6 weeks long, cost is $150; $135 for Berrien Artist Guild members per class. Monday –Beginning Photography, Tuesday – Intermediate Photography, Wednesday – Photo Shop, Thursday – Advanced Photography. Sign up at the Box Factory front desk. The Gallery committee is currently taking applications for the 2015 gallery show schedule at the Box Factory. The gallery application is posted on boxfactoryforthearts.org. The deadline is August 31, 2014 for applications to be considered for the 2015 gallery schedule.
