Coming up to Christmas, spare a thought for those who are struggling to make ends meet. Can you spare a can or a box of food for a food bank? You can usually donate at your local supermarket or contact your local Salvation Army. If your supermarket is offering a great deal on something you dont want - why not buy it anyway and donate it to the food bank? Toothpaste, shampoo and other toiletry items would be welcomed. This article (US based) is very interesting if you do wish to donate food. Think healthy & nutritious. For example - tins of salmon or hearty soups tins of carrots or other veg tinned fruit (in fruit juice, not syrup) boxes of dried goods like rice or cereal rather than bags (which can rip). Choose cereal with low sugar content & high fibre - a box of oats would be perfect. Kids lunches - sliced bread, Peanut Butter, boxes of raisins. Bags of Apples/potatoes (good lasting power). And what about some chocolate for a Christmas smile. I like the suggestion of donating reusable shopping bags too, as long as they are in reasonably good condition.
