Comment from a friend: “We need to have a well-paying jobs - TopicsExpress

Comment from a friend: “We need to have a well-paying jobs program tied to infrastructure improvements administered locally by cities, counties and states where people still trust government to get the job done. And this should be funded by tax policies at the federal level which put a much bigger burden on the wealthy in this country.” Matthew Dowd, chief strategist for Bush/Cheney 04’ My response: Keith this burden is already proportionally on higher income earners. Almost all low income wage earners already do not pay income taxes. Over simplified we need to follow a couple basic financial management principles: 1. Set priorities 2. Address needs, not wants 3. Spend within our means 4. Stick to your budget 5. Audit your financials 6. Treat everybody fairly Last, if we follow mandated services and responsibilities outlined in both the U.S. and State constitutions we have a pretty good roadmap as to what is the responsibility of services that government should provide. So, the last principle to be observed is to avoid scope creep. I subscribe to the belief that government like a good business should not try to be everything to everybody. That is my preaching for this Friday.
