Commenting on the Chancellor’s announcement in the Autumn Statement that, from April, search and rescue and air ambulance charities will be eligible for VAT refunds, Sir Robert has said: “Search and rescue teams operating in the North East, particularly in the Cairngorms, provide a vital service. These teams are often staffed by volunteers who are prepared to work in difficult conditions to help those in need of assistance. Liberal Democrats recognise their crucial role and so from next April search and rescue teams will be eligible for VAT refunds. This will give teams, like Braemar Mountain Rescue, a financial boost to help them invest in emergency equipment so they can continue to their life-saving work.” This VAT refund will apply to search and rescue and air ambulance charities in the UK.
