Commenting on the shambolic scenes in the House of Commons today when the Westminster Government reneged on a commitment to have a vote on opting in to the European Arrest Warrant - because it was alarmed by the prospect of a Tory backbench rebellion on the matter - Pete Wishart MP, SNP Home Affairs spokesperson said: This is an utter shambles of Theresa Mays own making .The Government promised a vote on the European Arrest Warrant and because they are so terrified of the Euro-hostility on the Tory backbenches they got themselves into a total Westminster farce.This incompetence is where the Westminster obsession with European exit takes us. To the very point of withdrawing from a process that ensures the effective transfer of foreign criminals to face justice .It seems for many at Westminster that anything prefixed with the word ‘European’ is to be viewed with maximum suspicion. It has led to this extraordinary confusion on the extremely important matter of tackling cross border crime. Backbench Tories are so obsessed with the growth of UKIP that every day we now edge closer and closer towards the exit door - as their Euro hostility gets more and more strident.Scotland or any of the other UK nations should not be dragged out of the EU against their will by a Westminster establishment dancing to UKIP’s tune.
