Comments Please ఆత్మహత్యాయత్నం ఇక నేరం కాదు: కేంద్రం Government decriminalizes attempt to commit suicide, removes section 309 ఆత్మహత్యాయత్నం ఇక నేరం కాదని కేంద్రం స్పష్టం చేసింది. ఈ అంశంపై 18 రాష్ట్రాలు, 4 కేంద్రపాలిత ప్రాంతాలు సమర్థించాయని పేర్కొన్న కేంద్రం ఈ మేరకు ఆత్మహత్యను నేరంగా పరిగణించే ఐపీసీ సెక్షన్ 309ను తొలగించాలని నిర్ణయించింది. ఆత్మహత్య చేసుకోవడానికి ఎవరైనా ప్రయత్నించి బతికి బయటపడితే వారిపై పోలీసులు సెక్షన్ కింద కేసు నమోదు చేసేవారు. సెక్షన్ 309 ప్రకారం ఆత్మహత్యయత్నానికి పాల్పడిన నేరానికి ఏడాది జైలు, జరిమానా ఉండేది. 1996 సంవత్సరంలో సెక్షన్ 309 రాజ్యంగ విరుద్ధమని సుప్రీంకోర్టు ధర్మాసనం వ్యాఖ్యానించింది. 309 సెక్షన్‌ను తొలగించాలని గతంలోనే కేంద్రానికి లా కమిషన్ చూచించింది. సెక్షన్ 309 తొలగించడంతో ఇక నుంచి ఆత్మహత్యాయత్నం నేరం కాదు. ========================================================= Attempt to suicide is no longer a crime. The government on Wednesday said that it will remove section 309 from the Indian Penal Code, under which anyone attempting to commit suicide is punishable with a jail term of up to one year and a fine. Minister of state for home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said the Law Commission of India, in its 210th Report, had recommended that Sec 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of IPC needs to be effaced from the statute book.
