Common Poorwill:- A small nightjar of the arid West, the Common Poorwill is the smallest member of its family in North America. It is one of the few birds known to hibernate during the winter. In fact it is the only bird known to go into torpor for extended periods (weeks to months). The birds temperature can drop to as low as 41 degrees, and their rate of respiration is reduced up to 90%. They can remain in this state for days or weeks at a time.
