Common misconceptions on Amendment 1 (Farming Rights Amendment) - TopicsExpress

Common misconceptions on Amendment 1 (Farming Rights Amendment) VOTE YES! 2. All farmers whether large or small will benefit from the Right to Farm amendment passing. In many minds, the small farmer will actually benefit from it more. Let’s look at a small farm such as the one my family has with around 40 head of cattle next to a bigger farm. If we are hit with legislation that prevents us from engaging in agriculture practices such as Proposition B (explained above), who will have the resources to protect themselves? The larger farm will, not my family who has a small operation. We must remember, however that we are all in this together! This does not give farmers a blank check to do whatever they want. Think about this, federal law has always superseded state law. No matter what type of farmer it is, large or small, organic or conventional, ALL must abide by federal laws (i.e.; The Clean Water and Air, etc.). I like putting it in health care terms. If you a doctor does something that is unethical, do they close the whole hospital down? NO, they get rid of that doctor and punish him/ her. Whether you enjoy a nice tender juicy mouth watering steak for dinner or a plate full of organic vegetables, this bill will ensure Missouri’s consumers the right of choice. Stay tuned for more!
