Common sense reform: Establish a process 4 parents 2 remove founded findings after a set time. Even felons have a process 4 expungement. Parents should also have an avenue available to them to approach the court for expungement after established conditions are met. At some point, the record which currently is permanent, is not about the best interest of the child and more about continued punishment of the parent. A founded finding, which currently cant be removed, prevents a parent from even volunteering in their childs school for free but most certainly, makes its extremely difficult in finding employment through any company or organization or government entity that receives any sort of state funding. State law forbids for instance, the employing of any person with a founded finding. Few child welfare cases involve criminal proceedings and the parent doesnt have a criminal record. Its just an internal child welfare database but it acts much like a criminal record except with criminal convictions, the law allows for them to petition the court for expungement of conviction. Even felonies.
