Communal Crisis Looms in Ikibiri. Community crisis is looming in Ikibiri in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, following payment of compensation by the state government to landlords in respect of the airport project. Speaking in Yenagoa, an aggrieved person, Comrade Agama Noah, said the unequal payment has unsettled the people, adding that a chaotic situation is gradually looming in the community. Comrade Noah alleged that some families sidelined during the payment exercise, pointing out that if the situation is not addressed properly it would degenerate into a major crisis. Noah said, a huge project such as the Cargo International Airport and road construction is taking place in Ikibiri and the Royal Highness, Chief Alfred Kpun, Ogbo II, was not properly consulted, implies that all is not well. The paramount ruler has made frantic efforts to resolve some of the issues that affected the community, yet the situation remained unclear. He said, inspite of Chief Kpuns peace-making efforts, some indigenes of the community are bent on creating problems which are inimical to the communitys stability. He said, for enduring peace to reign in the community, there must be a workable elders forum, an acceptable platform of Community Development Committee. Other suggestions, according to him, include a town planning committee, a vigilante group for securing the community and sensitive properties of government and official, acknowledge and recognition of the chiefs council. He said if the suggestions are taken seriously, Ikibiri community would be a better organized society in the state where peace and stability would be the order of the day.
