Communal conflagration, now engulfing Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh has undoubtedly taken a heavy toll on fragile communal harmony in the state with the state administration headed by Samajwadi party leader Akilesh Yadav miserably failed in its duty to take a timely and stringent action in accordance with law against vested interest who bent upon spreading the fire of religious hatred among people for their own benefit. Inflammatory rhetorics of poltical and religious leaders with an intent to create a wedge between Hindus and Muslims coupled with the callousness attitude of the state administration to ensure the writ of the law runs large on the region where religious fundamentalists are on the prowl to stoke communal fire should be blamed for the ongoing communal violence in UP. In a country like ours where political parties have had no qualms in sacrificing communal harmony at the altar of identity politics, hardly any wonder to see communal violence often taking a centre stage and affect peace , tranquility and development of the country. It is time political class understood that development without communal harmony will hardly be sustained in the long run.
