Communicators to develop 2015-2016 C4D Work Plan Lilongwe, December 15: Director for Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture, Gerald Viola has commended UNICEF for the support rendered to the ministry’s mandate to communicate and disseminate public information for the country’s social and economic growth and development. Viola made the remarks on Monday at the opening of a daylong 2015-2016 Communication for Development (C4D) Annual Work Plan development workshop for communication experts from different ministries in Lilongwe. He said the C4D workshop was important for communicators because it was a day to reflect on what went well and what did not go well in communication activities, saying the results of the assessment will help in replaning to improve performance. “Plans for any activity in any organization are very important because they guide in implementing our activities. It should therefore not just be time wasted to have come here to develop the C4D plan and put it on our shelves for decorations in our offices. It is my hope that the plan will be used for its intended purpose by the team gathered her,” Viola explained. He further commended communicators for their efforts in complementing government to ensure that the nation is well informed on pertinent issues that affect them. “If the nation claims to know what good nutrition is, what good rights are, why education is important in the country, what good sanitation and hygiene is, it is because of you esteemed communicators,” he said. The Information Director then appealed to all communicators to join hands in fighting issues of HIV/AIDS, stunting and sidelining girls in education. UNICEF’s Chief of Communication, Angela Travis promised UNICEF’s continuing support to government’s efforts in making Malawi a well informed nation on various issues that affect people’s welfare. “This workshop’s objectives are to review the progress on 2014 work plans, share section C4D priorities in 2015-2016 rolling work plans and strategize on how C4D will deliver results in line with priorities,” said Travis. Rebranding and marketing of child protection services in the Ministry of Gender, Women, Children and Social welfare is one of the priorities in 2015-2016 rolling work plans.
