Communist Party of India (CPI) releases first list of candidates for 4 Lok Sabha & 18 Assembly constituencies in Odisha. The list was announced by the Veteran CPI leader and former general secretary of the party AB Bardhan. Speaking to reporters Bardhan said keeping 2009 alliance in mind we were hopeful for a seat sharing with BJD. “I was also hinted this two days ago and went to a discussion with the senior leaders of the ruling party in the state. But they put a condition before us to abstain from the protest against controversial steel giant POSCO and Vedanta, which is simply not acceptable.” “Despite alliance with BJD in last assembly election we raised sword against the party for the people’s cause. For the sake of power we cannot compromise with our ideology and would continue our agitation against both the companies who are trying to loot the state at any cost,” Bardhan told. Replying to a query he said “At the centre we are committed to keep the congress at bay and defend Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). We do not want these two parties to conquer parliament.” CPI has decided to give another chance to its only sitting MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai from Jagatsingpur Lok Sabha constituency. Party’s state chief Dibakar Nayak said while Ashok Kumar Bisi has been declared to fight the General Election from Bragad, Dr Prashanta Mishra and Ramesh Chandra Jena would be the candidates from Balasore and Bhadrak respectively. Sura Jena will fight from Bhubaneswar (North) Assembly constituency. The party is likely to name 9 more candidates for the Assembly election in second phase. Speaking about the Assembly candidates he said Krushna Nayak from Chattrapur, Haldhar Pujari from Chitrakonda, Suryamani Nayak from Kotpad, Sushata Kumar Adhikari from Jaypur, Abakash Sahu from Boudh, Bidyadhar Mahanta from Champua, Suvendu Pratap Mohanty from Bhandaripokhari, Upendra Roul from Chandabali and Santosh Biswal would fright from Simulia constituency. Also Gouranga Panigrahi from Balasore Sadar, Duryodhan Bhoi from Sundargarh, Kamal Behera from Kakatpur, Debendranath Sahu from Nimapada, Gajanan Sahu from Brajaraj Nagar, Basant Kumar Paikaray from Begunia and Premanand Putel from Kantabanji have been declared as CPI candidates for the Assembly poll.
