Community Calendar for Sunday, July 6, 2014 And KWSO will be broadcasting the Waterfront Blues Festival from Portland today starting at noon and going until 9 toinght. The Festival benefits the Oregon Food Bank. In Warm Springs the Presbyterian Church runs our local food bank and is open on Sundays. In Madras, the Jefferson County Food Bank is open Tuesday afternoons at 556 SE Seventh Street. If you are able, please support your local food bank. Sign ups for Camp Naimuma are going on now. This is a great opportunity for kids to lean language, learn skills on how to make traditional items and spend time camping at Peter’s Pasture. Boys Camp is July 13th – 17th and Girls Camp is July 20th -24th. Sign up today by calling Greg or Deanie at the Culture and Heritage language program at 553-3290. Salena Sahme is raising money for a hand cycle to participate in the Portland Marathon this year. She is raffling 2 tickets to the Atlanta Dream vs Seattle Storm WNBA game on August 7th in Seattle. Salena sets up at Warm Springs Market to sell tickets or you can call her at 541-325-1838. The Warm Springs Vets Handyman Service is available to do any tasks you have around your house or in your yard. If you need help with something – give Anthony a call at 541-460-1664. Background checks must be completed for all who would like to attend. Contact Tim Woods as soon as possible to find out more 541-325-5617. 7/9 Warm Springs 4-H is hosting an art, craft & photography workshop for youth 8-15 this Wednesday from 10-3. This is to prepare items for open class competition at the Jefferson County Fair which is coming up in Madras July 23rd-26th. A baked and canned foods workshop will be held on Thursday July 17th as well. Call to pre-register 6553-3238. The Warm Springs Mobile Medical Unit will be open for visits this coming Thursday July 10th from 9am to 3pm at the Sidwalter Fire Hall. Call Kat Spaulding to pre-schedule 553-2478. Voc Rehab in Warm Springs has orientations every Monday at 3pm at their office in the industrial park. Orientations are also held on Tuesdays at 3pm at the Community Counseling Center. There’s an aftercare group that meets every Monday 5:30-7pm at the Counseling Center. It’s a group offering support in continuing sobriety. The Diabetes Prevention Program is holding their Breakfast support session from 7:30-8:30 Tuesday at their office next to the Family Resource Center. They also invite you for a sunrise stroll – weekday mornings in July at 7am. You get a morning snack and if you do a risk assessment – you get a t-shirt. Warm Springs Head Start is holding their Round Up on July 15th and the 29th at the I.H.S. Clinic. Please call Head Start to schedule an appointment. Call 553-3242 and as for Danni or the Family Services Staff. The Round up includes a physical, plus hearing, dental and vision check ups . All new and returning children need to receive these screenings and physical. This is an opportunity for families to get everything done at once, but you must have an appointment so please call Head Start today. Warm Springs Construction is working on East Tenino road from Chucker Road to Elliot Heights. The work is to add turn lanes into the new school and build a pedestrian pathway from the school to the Community Center. That part of the road will now be closed Monday-Thursday 6am – 4:30pm. Please use alternate routes.
