Community Conch’s 2014 Survey took the team to the most northern - TopicsExpress

Community Conch’s 2014 Survey took the team to the most northern latitudes of The Bahamas and to some pretty wild places - the northern edge of the uninhabited Little Bahama Bank. Although the seas were a bit rougher and the water deeper it was evident that there are still thriving conch populations in these remote areas., The weather was great for the trip and all the planned survey areas were covered. From the Mantanilla Shoal and Reef area, the team then traveled to the Southeast to the fishing grounds near Grand Cay, and then a little further south to the Carter Cays area. Due the great weather the team were also able to take a little time to survey the Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park in Abaco with help from volunteers from Friends of the Environment – Abaco and the great assistance of Peter Graham, BNT’s summer science intern who was part of the Conch Survey Team. These surveys would not have been possible without the support of the Shedd Aquarium and their research vessel the R/V Coral Reef II.
