Community Confidence goes from Strength to Strength Dorset - TopicsExpress

Community Confidence goes from Strength to Strength Dorset based Community Event Network has been changing the lives of nearly 100 volunteers over the last year; providing training and opportunities in working at a range of different community led events like Vdub at the Pub festival, West Howe Fun Day and Harry Paye Day to name but a few. The project is funded by Skills and Learning Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole with money from the Skills Funding Agency which supports the development of community based and volunteer learning. The Community Event Network courses are run and managed by event professionals and peers who, like many others in the industry, started off as community event volunteer stewards. The free training will allow workless people to improve their skills and return to work or volunteering. The training is has proven to be a first step to a career in events with several people going on to paid work and some were selected as stewards for last minute positions that came up at Glastonbury festival 2014. The next training event is the 2nd Confidence Conference and is being held on Friday 30th January from 9.30am – 3pm at Bournemouth Friends Meeting House, 16 Warncliffe Road, Boscombe, Bournemouth, BH5 1AH. The first conference was a great success with every participant saying they felt more confident by the end. Throughout the day there are workshops which aim to help improve self-esteem & self-discovery and taster sessions on mediation, massage and detox-acupuncture. Among the guest facilitators Poole based published author and wellbeing practitioner Marylyn Cropley will be leading workshops on Creative Mindfulness with an introduction of how this and other CBT techniques can help people cope in stressful situations. The conference costs £4 and includes workshops, wholesome soup and cake at tea time but is available free of charge for people already volunteering in the community. Those interested can call Sam Monks on 01202 386348, visit the website communityeventnetwork or just turn up on Friday 30th January at 9.30am at Bournemouth Friends Meeting House.
