Community Conversation Event AFFM is pleased to once again be partnering with DHHS, the Muskie School of Public Service, and other friends of youth and families to take part in an opportunity to share ideas and strategies for achieving permanency for youth in foster care. A Community Conversation will take place on May 29, 2014 at Auburn Public Library, in the Androscoggin Community Room, 49 Spring Street, Auburn. The time of the event is 9:00am-2:00pm. The Community Conversation will bring together a panel of youth and foster, adoptive or kinship parents. The goal is to increase awareness and ultimately to make a positive commitment to seek permanency for Maines youth who are in or have been in foster care. Stories will be shared about what has worked and what has not. A skilled facilitator will lead the panel in a rich and vital conversation. Following the panel participants will have the opportunity to take part in a discussion and explore permanency options for Maines youth. As a participant you will be given the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas on what permanency means to you. We all want youth to have someone to call on to share and help celebrate their joys as well as to help decrease their challenges and sorrows. Your input matters. Please plan to attend. We are offering a gift card to anyone who brings someone with them. Bring a provider, school teacher, or even a friend that might be interested in working with youth. The Community Conversation we hope will lead to an on-going dialogue about this important topic. We of course hope the dialogue will improve and increase the numbers of youth who achieve permanency. Resource families are encouraged to attend. Your voices are so important. You are with the youth every day and night. You understand the messages they share and many that they dont. Please join in and help Maine move more kids into permanency. GAL Continuing Education Credits have been approved for this event. Application has been made for CLEs for attorneys. Please call AFFM for an update on this application. This is a training event good towards Resource Family Training hours for relicensing. A 5 hour certificate will be given at the end of the day.
