Community Service Recognised Outstanding community service has been recognised with the awarding of two life memberships as part of the annual Local Government Honours. Shire of Murchison President Simon Broad and City of Bayswater Mayor Terence Kenyon were awarded life memberships in the Honours awards presented at the 2013 Local Government Convention and Exhibition. Held by the WA Local Government Association, the annual Convention and Exhibition attracts almost 700 representatives from Local Government across the State. WALGA President Mayor Troy Pickard congratulated the life membership awardees along with the seven Eminent Service Award winners, nine Long and Loyal Service Awardees, 26 winners of Merit Awards and seven Local Government Officers Award winners. “The life members represent exactly that, a lifetime of commitment to their communities and it is outstanding that 49 other individuals from the sector have achieved recognition,” Mayor Pickard said. “I congratulate them all and hope that it serves to encourage and inspire others to take up a role in Local Government to serve their communities.” Murchison President Broad was first elected to Council in 1987 and has been President for the past 15 years, accepting the challenge of attending meetings when living 185km from the settlement. Meanwhile Bayswater Mayor Kenyon has 19 years in Local Government, elected Mayor in 2009 and helping drive significant infrastructure projects.
