Community call for CSG ban after independent report... Write to the newspapers and your local MP and state it is not only ‘activists’ calling - but the majority of the Northern Rivers community that is calling for a complete ban on unconventional gas production in the Northern Rivers – such was the request from over 10,000 strong signatures on the petition presented to the NSW State Parliament on 20st June 2013. Residents of the Northern Rivers asked the Government to declare the Northern Rivers region an ‘Unconventional Gas Free Zone’ (unconventional gas includes coal seam gas, tight sands and shale gas). The petition called for the revoking of all current licenses within the region, including the catchments of the Clarence, Richmond and Tweed rivers. The petition represents the combined efforts of thousands of Northern Rivers residents who oppose the many serious threats to its continued existence and health that an unconventional gas industry in the region impose.
