Community event: Miguel De La Torre speaking as part of the Jensen Lectures at Seattle First Baptist Church (1111 Harvard Ave, 98122) Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25 De La Torre is currenlty Professor of Social Ethics and Latino/a Studies at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. Additionally, he was elected as the 2012 President of the Society of Christian Ethics. Dr. De La Torre has received several national book awards and is a frequent speaker at national scholarly religious events and meetings. He also speaks at churches and nonprofit organizations on topics concerning the intersection of race, class and gender with religion. Born in Cuba before the Castro Revolution, Dr. De La Torre was baptized a Roman Catholic, became a student at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and eventually earned his PhD at Temple University in Social Ethics. seattlefirstbaptist.org/de-la-torre.html
