Community members march for peace in Spfld. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dozens of Springfield residents hoping to inspire their neighbors to stand up against violence gathered Friday night in Springfield’s downtown. Concerned community members marched from State St. to Springfield City Hall and called for peace on city streets. Many people told 22News problems with street crimes are “getting out of hand,” and they hope to stop the younger generation from falling into the cycle of gang violence and criminal activities. “Be yourself, you know, and don’t follow the crowd,” said Kyreem Tabar of Springfield. “If you know that the person you’re hanging out with is not a good person, don’t follow them. Be yourself and always follow your first instincts.” So far in 2014, nine people have been killed in Springfield.
