Companies, we can think depend in some way of the munificence of the State. The State educates and trains people in skills of which companies will profit, pays workers if they become unemployed to avoid the generation of social problems that could disrupt business, builds and maintains infrastructure that facilitates business, supports research, generates rules to protect property... However, occasionally it happens that some companies refuse to contribute to the State as we have all agreed; others use stratagems not to honour their commitments, taking advantage of others. They are, in short, spongers. Let us now apply that example to a State. Let us think that politicians are the CEOs of the States they manage. Can they work against the interest of their company’s partners? What happens if they have done so in the past? Can they now expect the investors of these partners to trust on promises coming from him? Deprive the State of revenues for the sake of private profits, produces a creaking hum in the ears of citizenry. No person can fix that by appearing before the public (in a Parliament or wherever) making statements of repentance and good intentions, especially if those words do not transform into measures to reinstate harm. No offense Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker.
