Compare and Contrast... Finally, let us compare and contrast three images that are attributed to Isabelo Tampinco. The First one is an image of the Lady of Lourdes that is found in Vigan Cathedral. This piece is documented as being made by Tampinco. The second one is the Sta. Marta of Pateros, the attribution to Tampinco I made two years ago. And the last one is of the Sta. Philomena of Vigan. Just look at the faces of the Lady of Lourdes and the Sta. Marta. The similarities are uncanny. The way the eyes were sculpted are particualry telling. The pursed lips are the same and so are the elongated faces of both the Virgin and Sta. Marta. Further, look at the way the hair is drawn back around the ears to expose the lobes... very similar treatment. And look at the neck rings, there are two present in both images and they are drawn up the same way. The Sta. Philomena, on the hand, seems a bit different. The elongated face is the same but the heavy, brush-stroke of the eyebrows are not similar to the way the eyebrows were painted on the Lady of Lourdes or the Sta. Marta. Both the Lady of Lourdes and the Sta. Marta engages the viewer frontally with pupils upraised to heaven. The Sta. Philomena, on the other hand, tilts her head to the right with the pupils looking at the viewer head on. The pursed lips on both the Lady of Lourdes and the Sta. Marta are the same; but the lips of the Sta. Philomena is not as pursed as it should be. And whereas the Lady of Lourdes and the Sta. Marta have very pronounced chins and neck rings, the Sta. Philomena seem to lack these tell-tale characteristics. What you do you guys think? Is it or is it not????
