Compassion Fatigue Oct 07, 2014 10:00 am Bertrand Russell, the English philosopher, wrote in his autobiography: Three passions have governed my life. The first two were a longing for love and a search for knowledge. The third, he said, was unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. He added, Echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart. The faceless statistics are overwhelming and disturbing. We may feel compelled to do something but may instead succumb to compassion fatigue. Yet Christian ears and hearts should not be desensitized. We cant afford to remain insensitive, because we have moral, humanitarian, and Christian obligations to fulfill. But, most important, we cant afford to remain uninvolved, because Jesus showed us that caring is not a spectator sport!
