Compilation of my Top 200 songs of 2014 is complete! Over the next few days, Ill be building the playlist up on Youtube (link below) and tweeting each entry. #Top200SongsOf2014 I have been producing this chart for the past several years. It fills a hole left from my old college radio days. I have an explanation on how I produce the chart below. Anyway, itll take several days to get through them all and Im not going to spam Facebook too much. Thats what Twitters for! But, I will occasionally post a link to the Youtube playlist. The music is a variety of genres which orbit mainly in the indie sphere. So, theres a lot of rock and pop, synth and electro with forays into metal and other more obscure styles. Finally, I would love to hear what you think of the selections! Fire away!! CHART RULES (for the curious) - I start with songs Ive added to my collection in the last year and a half (since August 1st, 2013) - Those songs have to have been released by the artist within the last 3 years (occasionally, a song is released but it takes some time for it to catch on. However, songs more than two years old on the chart are uncommon) - Each song is awarded a point per play. (I keep track of how many times I listen to a song at home, work or in the car) - Points are subtracted from each song based on how long Ive had it in my collection. (If Ive had a song for 8 months, Ive had more time to listen to it than a song Ive had for 4 months and thus more chances for plays). - I have a 3 point fudge factor for songs Im tired of (-3) or still obsessed with (+3) - Finally, I modify each songs point total based on how long that song is. For example, if a song is 6 minutes long, chances are that Ive listened to it less times than a song that is 3 minutes long even though I might enjoy them equally. The modification is a fraction (1/4) of the difference from the average song length in the chart (which this year was 244 seconds) - All of that info is put into a spreadsheet which spits out a final point total. - Some of last years songs will show up on the new list. If they have increased in points, I leave them in, if not, I take them out completely. That leaves me with the ordered list youll see!
