Complete 35 movement slow form instruction video series now posted up on my youtube channel and soon to be posted on my website This form is suitable for people who have limited space to practice or time constraints, it is easy to learn and is a wonderful way to stay healthy in a busy life style. Since there is no low or demanding postures it is also suitable for people with lower mobility. The benefits when practiced regularly are increased balance, flexibility, improved circulation, breathing and concentration which are something that we can all use more of. This form is not one of the traditional Wu forms but was designed whilst I was travelling as a means to maintain my Tai Chi practice with limited space. The movements have come from the traditional 108 movement Wu slow form , which I highly recommend learning, the transitions in the form have come from the Wu 30 movement simplified slow form which is used for competitions . Slow form can be practiced both right and left handed, this means that you can do a mirror version of each form. The most common forms that people learn today are right handed which means the majority of postures are performed right hand dominated. Of course as anyone who exercises knows to exercise only on one side of the body is to be out of balance. The forms were originally meant to be performed in a mirror style, both left and right hand side to create balance in the exercise for the practitioner, but due to busy lifestyles and time constraints this is out of reach of most people in everyday life. This 35 movement slow form contains both right and left handed versions of the postures and thus exercises both sides of your body. It still has a strong chi flow like the original but takes a shorter period of time to perform. The beauty of it is that the left and right hand side of the form are joined together in a never ending loop, so you can continuously practice it for as long as you wish, only altering a couple of moves to enter into the closing postures. Another advantage is the space in which it can be practiced in, more of us are living in townhouses and unit blocks so space has become a real issue. A number of my students do their daily tai chi in a hallway and the 108 movement slow form is too long to perform in that amount of space. This 35 movement slow form uses much less space as demonstrated in the Wu 35 movement slow form videos. The area in which it is performed in the video for the standing form is 3 metres (9f 10in) L x 1.5 (4ft 11in) metres W. I have also adapted this form to a chair, I believe that Tai Chi in a chair should no be a watered down version of Tai Chi, but that it should have the same mental stimulation and health benefits as traditional standing forms. I have also included a version of the full 108 movement slow form in a chair for those that are more adventurous and would like to experience the original form in its purity. Of course the original form was meant to be performed standing up, with stepping and kicks. But when performed seated you can still get good chi flow through combining concentration, movement and breathing in a unified way. This unification of mind, body and breathing is Tai Chi, not whether you are standing, sitting or lying down. Through the study of these forms and elements nature will still reveal to you what it wants you to learn. If you have the time I still recommend the full Wu 108 movement slow form, it is a beautiful and complete package that has been practiced for health benefits for many generations. Movement List •1.
