Completing The Herd After four months of time in the herd Dex - TopicsExpress

Completing The Herd After four months of time in the herd Dex has found the social confidence to persuade Djinnie to share her food! its quite an accomplishment for him, and got me thinking about the way horses operate. There seem to be two energetic states or attitudes in other horses that are repulsive to them, and bring out their aggressive side. 1) Disrespect/rudeness and 2) Nervousness/hesitancy There seems to be a general process most horses follow when they integrate properly with the herd, they start out at number 1: not appreciating boundaries, pushing through and making a nuisance of themselves, and the herd usually reacts fast and furiously, re-establishing the correct order, and pushing the newcomer out until they accept that they arent welcome (yet). Then the newcomers usually go through a longer period of time in the number 2 state. They anticipate attacks from the others, and are so nervous approaching that they seem to incite further aggression! Its a steep learning curve for them, but it IS effective, because after a certain period of time, the new horse will find some kind of inner depth to their character. All that time they spend being pushed away stimulates them to discover a new self. The new self is confident without arrogance, and sensitive without anxiety. It is as if the weakness has been released or resolved, and they have unearthed their inner strength. The interesting thing is in the paradox, in order to JOIN the herd, they have become truly independent of it. So instead of *needing* the safety and security of the herd, and therefore weighing it down, they can now bring their own measure of courage and valiance. Its very similar to human relationships - you cant find someone else who will complete you until you are complete yourself :)
