Computer Crimes Unit 213-533-4657 Office WHAT WE HANDLE: Investigations- The Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) handles crimes related to 502(c) of the California Penal Code. These include Unlawful Computer Access, Hacking, Theft of Data, Network Intrusion and Denial of Service Attacks. Additionally, the CCU handles the more complex and/or high dollar value Internet fraud cases (Over $10,000). Forensics- The CCU is responsible for all digital forensics within the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The CCU Digital Forensics Team works with the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force. Digital forensic examinations include, but are not limited to; Computers, hard drives, “thumb” drives, memory cards, digital cameras, cell phones and gaming devices, and virtually any electronic device capable of storing electronic media. REPORTING COMPUTER CRIMES: The Internet is a big place. If you live in the City of Los Angeles and are the victim of a computer related crime, the Los Angeles Police Department will be happy to take a crime report for you or direct you to the proper agency. If the report needs to be forwarded to another jurisdiction, we will do that as well. If you are unsure, please contact the CCU at 213-533-4657.
